Description
The Academy faculty includes some of the country’s leading scholars and performers of 17th and 18th century music, including Andrew Megill, Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Organizations at Northwestern University; Baroque violinists Nancy Wilson (Princeton University) and Leah Nelson (Princeton University, Rutgers University); and Fuma Sacra, a professional vocal ensemble specializing in early music. The Academy is designed for musicians of all experience levels, united by their interest in the music of Bach. Each day begins with participants gathering for a lecture exploring the historical and liturgical context of the works being studied. The rest of the morning and early afternoon are spent in rehearsals. In the late afternoon, participants divide into tracks with daily events geared toward their particular interest and experience (see descriptions of the various tracks available below). The week also includes seminars on Baroque performance practice, as well as related concerts, including a recital for academy participants. The week’s work will culminate in a final concert. This year the focus of study and performance will be the friendship of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann, including performances of Bach’s Cantata 106, Gotteszeit ist die allerbeste Zeit, and Telemann’s Du aber Daniel, gehe hin.
